Tomáš Suško

Ph.D. student

Tomáš Suško is a PhD student at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, conducting research at the Institute of Experimental Physics. His research focuses on the development of anti-amyloid inhibitors that modulate protein aggregation, a process closely linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. He studies interactions between small molecules, peptides, and intrinsically disordered proteins involved in amyloid formation, including amyloid-β peptide, tau protein, and α-synuclein. His work aims to identify molecular features that can inhibit or redirect toxic aggregation pathways. To investigate these mechanisms, he applies a range of biophysical and spectroscopic methods, including Thioflavin T fluorescence assay, Atomic Force Microscopy, and Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy. Tomáš received his Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Prešov in 2024. His master’s thesis focused on disease-prevention education among primary school students, particularly using medicinal plants to promote health awareness. His current research combines molecular biology and biophysics to better understand protein misfolding and support the development of potential therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.
